What to Know Before You Go

Before heading out, a few things to keep in mind:

Most wineries welcome dogs on their outdoor patios and grounds — indoor tasting rooms are usually off limits

Always keep your dog on leash

Bring water and a bowl — summer days in wine country get warm fast

Call ahead to confirm current pet policies as these can change seasonally

Be mindful of other guests — not everyone is a dog person!

Bring high value treats — winery patios have lots of distractions

Dog-Friendly Wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery

Located in St. Davids, just between Niagara-on-the-Lake and St. Catharines, Ravine is widely considered one of the most dog-friendly wineries in all of Niagara. Dogs are genuinely welcomed here — not just tolerated. The vineyard encourages dog owners to bring their pets on tours and tastings, and the grounds are absolutely stunning. A must-visit.

This is the beautiful Ollie in the gorgeous vineyard at Ravine. The rolling vineyard is quite something to enjoy, just a gorgeous place to view and enjoy.

Peller Estates Winery

One of Niagara’s most well-known wineries, Peller Estates has beautifully manicured grounds that make for a gorgeous stroll with your dog. Their outdoor patio is a favourite and the vineyard views are spectacular — especially during golden hour when the light turns warm and golden across the vines.

Meet Alba and Dublin. They visited Peller Estates Winery with their people. The family visits the winery each year to celebrate their anniversary. They travel from the United States to do so. The last time they did they decided to have a session with their pups. I’m so happy they did!

Inniskillin Wines

A true Niagara icon set along the Niagara Parkway, Inniskillin has gorgeous grounds that are perfect for a leisurely walk with your pup. The property is beautiful year round but fall is absolutely magical here — the colours are breathtaking and the light is something special.

Wayne Gretzky Estates

With a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and beautiful outdoor spaces, Wayne Gretzky Estates is a great spot to bring your dog. The patio overlooks the vineyards and the vibe is friendly and laid back — perfect for a dog who loves to people watch.

Konzelmann Estate Winery

Situated right on Lake Ontario, Konzelmann offers some of the most stunning views in the entire region. Walking the grounds here with your dog on a clear day — with the lake stretching out in front of you and the vines on either side — is genuinely breathtaking. One of my personal favourites for late afternoon golden light.

Jackson-Triggs Niagara Estate

Jackson-Triggs has expansive outdoor spaces and a welcoming atmosphere. Their amphitheatre grounds are beautiful for a leisurely walk with your dog between tastings, and the setting is classic Niagara wine country at its best.

Strewn Winery

Set in a historic building surrounded by vineyards, Strewn has a charming outdoor area that dogs tend to love. It’s a quieter, more intimate winery — great if your dog is on the shy side and prefers a calmer environment.

Featherstone Estate Winery

Located in Vineland, Featherstone is one of the most beloved dog-friendly wineries in the region. It’s also one of the host wineries for the Muddy Paws Wine Trail — an annual dog-friendly wine event that’s become one of the most popular days on the Niagara dog owner calendar. If you haven’t been, put it on your list.

Sue-Ann Staff Winery

Another Muddy Paws Wine Trail host, Sue-Ann Staff Winery is warm, welcoming and absolutely gorgeous. The grounds are beautiful and the atmosphere is relaxed — exactly what you want for a day out with your dog.

Westcott Vineyards

Rounding out the Muddy Paws trio, Westcott Vineyards is a stunning property with a friendly, dog-welcoming atmosphere. The inter-winery trails between these three properties make for a wonderful full day adventure with your pup.

Rosewood Estates Winery

Located in Beamsville, Rosewood is known for being exceptionally dog-friendly — staff here genuinely love dogs and treat them like valued guests. The outdoor patio is welcoming and the wines are wonderful. Pair this with nearby Featherstone and Vineland Estates for a full day in the western end of wine country.

Ironwood Cider House (formerly Sunnybrook Farm Estate Winery)

Canada’s original fruit winery, now known as Ironwood Cider House, is a unique and charming stop. The outdoor spaces are relaxed and dog-friendly, and their fruit-forward wines and ciders are unlike anything else in the region. A wonderful hidden gem.

Hare Wine Co.

With old-world European charm, rustic brick and barn board character, Hare Wine Co. has a welcoming atmosphere that dogs seem to love. The grounds have a cozy, unhurried feel that makes for a really lovely afternoon.

Palantine Hills Estate Winery

If you want to feel genuinely welcomed, Palantine Hills is the place. The atmosphere here is warm and friendly — like visiting a long-lost friend. The patio space is comfortable and the cornhole toss and laid back vibe makes it a great spot for dogs and their people alike.

Don’t Miss: The Muddy Paws Wine Trail

If you’re a dog owner in Niagara this event needs to be on your calendar every year. The Muddy Paws Wine Trail is an annual summer event held across multiple dog-friendly wineries — typically Featherstone Estate, Sue-Ann Staff Winery, and Westcott Vineyards — where you can hike between properties with your dog, enjoy wine, food, live music and local vendors, all in the company of fellow dog lovers.

It typically takes place in June and tickets sell out — so keep an eye on muddypawswine.com for dates and details each year.

Tips for a Great Winery Visit With Your Dog

Go during off-peak hours — weekday mornings or late afternoons are quieter and more relaxed for dogs who get overstimulated easily.

Golden hour is magical — if you can time your visit for the last hour before sunset the light in the vineyards is absolutely stunning. The warm glow filtering through the vines creates something truly special. It’s definitely my favourite time!

Tire them out first — a quick walk or play session before your winery visit means a calmer, happier dog on the patio.

Pack a dog bag — water, a collapsible bowl, treats, a small towel and a poop bag holder. You’ll thank yourself later.

Check seasonal hours — many wineries have reduced hours in winter or early spring. Always check ahead before making the drive.

Turn Your Winery Visit Into a Photography Session

Speaking of golden hour in the vineyards — if you’ve ever thought about having professional portraits taken of your dog, Niagara’s wine country is one of the most stunning locations I photograph in.

The rows of vines, the warm afternoon light, the open fields between estates — it’s honestly one of my favourite places to work. Dogs photographed here look absolutely incredible. The golden light, the textures, the colours — it all comes together in a way that’s hard to replicate anywhere else.

If you’re interested in booking a golden hour session in Niagara’s wine country, I’d love to hear from you. Get in touch here and let’s plan something beautiful together.
